Google views of Angkor

Google representatives say people around the world will soon be able to go online and view close-up pictures of Phnom Penh’s streets and even the temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap.
Google Street View cars are capturing 360-degree panoramic images first in Phnom Penh and then around the historical temples near Siem Reap.
Undersecretary of state of the Ministry of Tourism, Pak Sokhom said: “By making the photos available online, people will realise Cambodia’s potential more easily. After seeing the images, they will dream about making a real-time visit.”
It will take around a year before the 360-degree, street-level view is fully available at the two popular destinations.
Apsara Authority, which manages the Angkor park,  has allowed Google to capture the images free of charge.
The Angkor archeological park is Cambodia’s most popular cultural attraction on the outskirts of Siem Reap town, located 315 km from the capital Phnom Penh.
Last year, the site attracted 2.06 million foreign visitors, earning around US$51 million from ticket sales at all the temples in the vast park that stands on the outskirts of the town.
The park was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1992.
Thailand linked up with Google Map Street View last year through a contract signed with the Tourism Authority of Thailand that offers views of Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai.
There are eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Thailand and three of them will be featured in the street view project; Sukhothai Historical Park, Si Satchanalai Historical Park and the Ayutthaya Historical Park.
