New clothing boutique opens on Pokambor

Tuggu, a new river-side men’s and women’s clothing shop, has opened on Pokambor Avenue, next to Monument Books. Paolly Theun, the boutique’s owner, designs much of the stock himself, while other items are sourced at the Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok.
Theun, 23, opened the shop because he wanted to do something different and sell clothes not found anywhere else in Siem Reap, as well as clothes in western sizes.
The boutique sells simple, black and white vests and unusual t-shirts with bicycle or monk motifs for $9-$10, which Theun designs himself, taking inspiration from clothes in magazines and his own ideas. For the women, there are colourful beachy dresses designed by Theun and made in Bangkok, as well as sunhats, bags and jewellery.
Tuggu also stocks stylishly-made men’s flip-flops in rattan and leather, large canvas courier bags and chic trilby hats in varying shades of beige, brown and even zebra stripes. These come from Chatuchak market and would not look out of place on the London or New York high street.
Chunky bangles are displayed in large, dried-out seed husks which Theun says comes from his home, in Kampong Thom. On the homeware side, there are elegantly packaged scented candles, essential oils and incense by Thai aromatherapy brand Montra Sense in fragrances such as Siamese lemongrass and jasmine.
