Dragonair soars to Siem Reap

SIEM REAP, 15 August 2013: Dragonair, a Hong Kong-based subsidiary of Cathay Pacific, will launch a new three-weekly service to Siem Reap starting 29 October.
Using Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, the new service will be seasonal to tap growing demand during the peak tourist months.
Flights will depart to Siem Reap from the airline’s Hong Kong base Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The Cambodia government-private sector working group on tourism co-chair, Ho Vandy, said the route would help to channel tourists from mainland China throuth the Hong Kong hub.
It will also offer more choices for customers travelling out of Cambodia. They will be able to connect with Dragonair’s mainland China network, or with Cathay Pacific’s routes to Europe and the US.
Dragonair CEO, Patrick Yeung said: “We are delighted to add Siem Reap to our expanding network in Asia. Our new service will further strengthen Hong Kong’s position as one of the world’s leading aviation hubs and promote tourism and business ties between Hong Kong and Cambodia.”
Siem Reap will become the airline’s 13th destination launched, or resumed by Dragonair, since April 2012. It will also be the airline’s second destination in Cambodia.
Dragonair currently operates  10 flights weeks between Hong Kong and the capital Phnom Penh.
Almost 3.6 million tourists visited Cambodia, last year, a 24.4% hike from 2011. Of the total arrivals, 28.1% touched down first in Siem Reap International Airport.
In addition, some 8,200 Hong Kong tourists visited the country, last year, a 57.3% increase when compared with 2011.
Thai AirAsia is poised to fly the Bangkok-Siem Reap route, 1 October. Meanwhile, Air China is expected to launch its first nonstop flights from Beijing to Siem Reap in November.
