Cambodia Angkor Air will commence six weekly services between Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Shanghai starting later this month.
Scheduled for 26 December, the new route will extend Cambodia Angkor Air’s international cover to five destinations served from its Phnom Penh base or Siem Reap. They are Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Guangzhou and Shanghai.
The airline hopes to capture a slice of the lucrative Chinese outbound travel market that is showing interest in Cambodia.
Nearly 334,000 Chinese tourists visited Cambodia in 2012, an increase of 35.1% from the previous year.
International arrivals increased by 24.4% from 2.88 million in 2011 to 3.58 million in 2012, according to government statistics.
Established 28 July 2009, Cambodia Angkor Air is the national flag carrier of Cambodia, headquartered in Phnom Penh.
The airline is owned by the Cambodian government (51%) and Vietnam Airlines (49%), that facilitated codeshare flights between the two airlines.
