Charters link Seoul and Sihanoukville

Cambodian-based Skywings Asia Airlines says it will consider introducing daily flights between Seoul and Sihanoukville if a current series of charter flights are successful.
Skywings Asia Airlines started the daily charters, 29 July, with bookings mainly supported by tour operators selling cheap beach holidays to Cambodia.
The first flight had 142 passengers on-board a 180-seat Airbus 320.
Initially, the airline is committed to running the service until the end of August, as an experiment to see if there is a market for beach holidays in Cambodia. Most visitors head for the heritage destination Siem Reap home to Angkor Wat.
The airline’s CEO, Mak Rady, told local media he was testing the market.
“We are looking at offering daily charters for the winter season from this October through to March 2015.”
The Cambodian government wants to diversity tourism in the country that is dominated by visits to Siem Reap and the capital Phnom Penh with very little tourism heading for other destinations.
During the first six months of the year, passenger growth at Sihanouk International Airport increased 146% to 20,400 passengers, according to data from Cambodia Airports.
In 2011, Skywing Asia Airlines operated charter flights from Incheon to Siem Reap International Airport.
Skywings Asia Airlines is based out of Siem Reap, but it is essentially a Korean venture with local partners that concentrates on flying Korean tourists to Cambodia .
