TCEB leads with MICE standards

BANGKOK  Thailand Covention and Exhibition Bureau has certified 42 event venues under its first Thailand MICE Venue Standard that will be a benchmark to improve quality.
TCEB’s Administration and Strategic Support vice president, Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, said the bureau prioritizes the importance of improving quality.
“To be able to compete in the international marketplace, quality products and services are key factors, especially following regional integration with the ASEAN Economic Community later this year.”
He added: “The bureau realises the importance of having an effective tool to measure quality, especially for MICE venues-in order to elevate MICE services and standards for operators in Thailand and ASEAN.”
inside no 2There are now 42 certified MICE operators from Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Hat Yai. More than 80 operators have applied for the programme that started in 2013.
Of all the certified operators, three are convention centres, 34 are hotels and resorts, and five public and private organisations.
Among them are Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, Bangkok Convention Centre at Central World, Miracle Grande Convention Hotel, the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne International Convention Centre, and SCB Training Centre Pattaya.
This year, TCEB expects 120 MICE entrepreneurs to be certified under the standard particularly in Thailand’s five key MICE cities of Hua Hin, Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi, and Nakhon Ratchasima.
Thailand’s MICE Venue Standard (TMVS) is now the model for ASEAN member countries that will lead to the formation of the ASEAN MICE Venue Standard. It will take another three years to arrive at a regional standard, but Thailand is taking the lead role based on its track record on a national level.
