PHNOM PENH Prime Minister Hun Sen says the country should increase cultural events and offer more activities to boost visits.
The PM told local media that Cambodia needed to have more cultural events such as the Angkor Sangkran festival which is celebrated as part of Khmer New Year in Siem Reap in April.
“We need more events like that to attract more tourists and at the same time we can showcase our culture.”
inside no 3The Angkor Sangkran festival, 13 to 16 April, includes concerts, trade fairs, cultural activities such as traditional Khmer games and dances.
In addition, the PM said there were many challenges to be tackled, despite the country’s rising popularity with tourists.
“Cambodia faces issues such as a lack of cooperation between authorities and the people, a lack of experience to prepare projects related to tourism and culture, a lack of general knowledge of the tourism sector and a lack of human resources,” he said.
Cambodia welcomed 4.5 million international tourists last year, and this year it should 5 million and 7.5 million by 2020.
