Celebrating 23 years between Thailand and Cambodia

25 May 2015  2041 | Cambodia Travel News

After two decades of operating in Cambodia, Thai Airways will be hosting a celebration with prizes, promotions and celebrity appearances in Phnom Penh for its 23rd anniversary of Cambodia operations.

“Happy flying with Thai 2015” will be from 10am to 8pm, May 22 to 24, at Lively Hall, Aeon Mall. Thai airways invites the public to celebrate the many years of connecting Cambodia to the world and the world to Cambodia.

Celebrity guests Ka-nhom Jean, a Thai singer, and Film Rattapoom, a famous actor and singer, will be performing shows and hosting interactive programs during the three day celebration.

The celebration will have games, prizes, a lucky draw, shows and a chance to win a free trip to Thailand. There will also be an opportunity to buy the “Cambodia Super Save Promotion”, which allows for all-inclusive flights from Phnom Penh to Thailand.

The “Cambodian Super Save Promotion” allows customers to buy round-trip tickets from Phnom Penh to Bangkok starting at $159 that pays for economy seats, taxes and a 30 kilo baggage allowance.

The promotion also offers tickets to other cities in Thailand, such as Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi, for a slightly higher price. Tickets are limited and are given out at a first-come, first-serve basis, so people are encouraged to come early.

Thai Airways promotes tourism, trade and growth between Thailand and Cambodia through passenger flights and cargo. They also have expanded the aircraft engineering business for the Cambodia aviation industry.

Thai Airways first started only providing flights to Phnom Penh and Bangkok and vice-versa. Now, because of an increase in demand, more flights have continually been added.

Meanwhile, the Thai Film Festival will be held from May 21 to May 25 in Phnom Penh as well. The Film Festival aims to promote film makers, producers and film production companies to collaborate creatively together. It is also an opportunity to exchange Thai culture and Cambodian culture through movies and visual arts.

Since most Cambodian films and television productions are only distributed locally, this is a chance for the Thai film industry to become more acquainted with the Cambodian entertainment industry.

In 2014, Thai Airways brought more tourists and business to Cambodia than they have in the previous years, with an estimate of 150,000 people flying to or from Cambodia.

Since the first flight in a Boeing 737-400 aircraft in April 1992, Thai Airways has been connecting flights from Bangkok to Phnom Penh. Everyday, through good or bad weather conditions, Thai airways has double daily flights connecting the Thai and the Cambodian capitals with the Airbus A320. In both directions, flights are available in the mornings and afternoons.

The department of international trade promotion, the Royal Thai Embassy, Thai Airways Cambodia and the tourism authority of Thailand have all collaborated for the event, which is meant to promote tourism, trade and economical development.

On top of celebrating 23 years of business relations with Thai airways, this celebration also honors the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relationships between the two countries.
