The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia has sent a protest note to the Ministry of External Affairs of India concerning the plan to build Angkor Wat Replica in Bihar State of India.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has received a report that the “MAHAVIR MANDIR TRUST” has planned to build Angkor Wat replica in Bihar State, and the preparation has already been made with a design very similar to Cambodia’s Angkor Wat Temple, said the protest note dated June 6, 2015.

“The Royal Government of Cambodia considers that this copy of Angkor Wat Temple for commercial benefit seriously violates the World Heritage which is of a ‘universal and exceptional value of humanity’,” it underlined.

Moreover, it added, Angkor Wat Temple has always been representing the symbol of Cambodia in its national flag since centuries.

“In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia strongly requests the Ministry of External Affairs of India to seriously and urgently consider the planned construction of Angkor Wat replica in order to nurture the traditional historical relations between the two countries and peoples,” said the protest note.
