Cambodia taps national park travel

KAMPONG SPEU A Japanese company, A2A Town (Cambodia), has submitted a request to the Cambodian Ministry of Environment to establish helicopter flights from Phnom Penh to Preah Soramrit Kossamak Kirirom National Park in Kampong Speu province.
The flights will whisk rich tourists to a new resort that has just opened in the national park.
Agence Kampuchea Presse reported that the helicopter project was given a mention by Minister of Environment, Say Samal, during the inauguration ceremony a resort being developed by the company.
A2A Town (Cambodia) president, Takeshi Izuka, said the company invested around USD500 million with its Cambodian development partner to build the resort in Kirirom National Park a luxurious natural retreat called “vKirirom Pine Resort.
inside no 1The company has been granted rights to develop facilities in Kirirom National Park since 2011 on economic concession land covering 2,000 hectares.
Kirirom National Park is located mostly in Phnom Sruoch district, Kampong Speu province, while a smaller section is in neighbouring Koh Kong province.
The park extends over the eastern part of the Cardamom Mountains. It is located 112 km from Phnom Penh off National Highway 4 on the road to Sihanoukville.
Lying at 675-metre (2,215 ft) above sea level, Kirirom was Cambodia’s first officially designated national park.
