PHNOM PENH Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism has awarded star-ratings to 26 hotels according to information reported in the ministry’s latest update on registration in the hospitality and travel sectors.
Agence Kampuchea Presse reported that the ministry’s update also confirmed the issue of tourism licenses to 235 hotels (15,239 rooms), 247 guest houses (6,694 rooms), 111 restaurants and 29 other tourism entertainment service places.
During the first half of the year, the ministry suspended 26 guides, seven tourism entertainment services and 24 tour agencies. It did not disclose the reasons.
Tourism Minister, Thong Khon, said Cambodia has enough hotels and guesthouses except in some secondary resorts, and that requires further organising and development.
inside no 3In April, Ministry of Tourism launched a new online system to register tourism-related businesses and tour guides, who need a licence. It was created to ease the inspection process and boost government revenue.
The online system is part of governmental reforms.
The new system will completely replace the traditional, manual system by 2016 and this should ensure the government can improve tax collection through its electronic tracking capability.
