PHNOM PENH Cambodia’s Secretariat of Civil Aviation signed a Memorandum of Understanding, last week, with the Morocco Civil Aviation Authority that technically allows direct flights between the two countries.
Khmer Times quoted SSCA spokesman, Sin Sereyvutha, saying it would allow airlines registered in either Cambodia or Morocco to start direct between the capital cities of both countries.
“First we signed an MoU to open the air route. Later, we will complete an air service agreement on specific details and guidelines for airlines,” he said.
The chances of airlines flying between the two countries are remote. Cambodia’s civil aviation authorities have signed numerous MoUs in the past few years, but very few will lead to new airline services.
During January to May, this year, only 224 Moroccan travellers visited Cambodia up 4.7% from 214 visits during the same period last year, according to Ministry of Tourism’s Statistics and Tourism Information Department data.
