Cambodia seeks Malaysian know-how

PHNOM PENH Cambodia and Malaysia will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism, this October, for training and community-based tourism.

Agence Kampuchea Presse reported the MoU will focus on an exchange of know-how on tourism policy, investment management and tourism product development.

The agreement will also include assistance on improving coastal, eco and community-based tourism management protection of the environment and ways to reduce work migration from rural communities to urban areas.

inside no 3Tourism Minister, Thong Khon, was quoted saying the ministry would also request the Malaysian side to provide more scholarships for Cambodian students in the field of tourism and to provide know-how on establishing a tourism institute and academy.

During the first half of this year, Cambodia attracted 70,450 Malaysian tourists to the country an increase of 2.4% from 68,821 visits during the same period, last year, according to Statistics and Tourism Information Department.

Last year, the kingdom welcomed 149,389 Malaysian tourists 3.4% from 144,437 visits in 2014.
