Angkor Air’s Macau route

Tourists wanting to visit Asia’s answer to Las Vegas will be able to fly from Preah Sihanouk province to Macau after Cambodia Angkor Air unveiled the new route yesterday.
 

Macau becomes the flagship carrier’s second international destination from Preah Sihanouk and the eighth from Cambodia, after Bangkok, Da Nang, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai Pudong.
 

The new route will operate two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Sundays.
 

Cambodia Angkor Air marketing manager Eng Molina told Khmer Times the airline added the route because of an increase in passengers wanting to travel between the destinations. He said the airline has a partner to sell tickets in Macau, which makes the route a good business opportunity.
 

He added the majority of passengers are expected to fly from Macau to Preah Sihanouk province rather than the opposite direction.
 

“There is high demand for seats from Macau to Preah Sihanouk province, so we will depend on customers from the Macau market,” Mr. Monlina said. “We are also studying the possibility of a route from Phnom Penh to Macau, but we are not 100 percent sure because we are waiting to see how this route works.”
 

He said the new route marks the second international destination from Preah Sihanouk, and the third from the province, as the airline also operates flights to Ho Chi Minh City and Siem Reap from there.
 

Sin Chan Sereyvutha, spokesman for State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, welcomed to the move. He said Cambodia Angkor Air is serving more passengers and attracting new customers, even though Macau is not a new market for local airlines.
 

Last year, Cambodia Angkor Air conducted feasibility studies into opening routes to India. Siem Reap is a potential destination for Indian customers because it is home to a number of Hindu temples, although the airline has no immediate plans for a new route there.
