A three-day China-Asean Expo-Cambodia Exhibition between March 30 and April 1 is to be organised in Phnom Penh, with the aim of increasing trade between China and Cambodia.

The expo is to be held because Cambodia holds the honorary chairmanship of the 15th Asean-China Expo in Nanning City, Guangxi province, in September.

Co-organised by Ministry of Commerce and Guangxi Autonomous Region, the expo, which is being held for the first time in Cambodia, will feature of 440 booths with 290 companies from Cambodia and China to showcase products.

Officials said yesterday that machinery and equipment, electronics and electrical appliances, light industrial, agro-based products and foodstuffs, high-tech, and tourism investment cooperation would be the main products in the expo.

About 50 of the companies are local entrepreneurs and the rest are from China, Seang Thay, director-general of Trade Promotion Department at Ministry of Commerce, said.

He said that none of companies taking part in the first exhibition was from Asean countries.

The China-Asean Expo-Cambodia Exhibition 2018 was designed to contribute to strengthening cooperation on the economy, trade and culture, particularly to provide opportunities for investment and trade for Cambodia and China, Mr Thay said.

“Through the trade fair, bilateral trade relation will be enhanced because it will not only provide chances for traders to showcase their products, but it will also provide a platform for business matching,” he said.
