PM Receives U.S. Assistant Secretary of State

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen yesterday afternoon received visiting U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs Mr. Kurt Campbell at the Peace Palace.

In the meeting, Mr. Kurt Campbell said U.S. Secretary of State H.E. Hillary Rodham Clinton and U.S. President H.E. Barack Hussein Obama will attend the ASEAN Regional Forum in July and the East Asia Summit in November respectively, according to H.E. Ieng Sophalet, Assistant to the Cambodian premier.

Mr. Kurt Campbell also informed Samdech Techo Hun Sen that the U.S. government encourage more American investors to come to Cambodia as well as to the whole ASEAN region in order to further strengthen the relationship between the U.S. and ASEAN, he said.

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Cambodia has been waiting for the upcoming visits of the US. President and Secretary of State, which will further deepen the ties between Cambodia and the U.S.

The prime minister would like to see the U.S. play more important role in the region in contribution to the world peace and thanked the U.S. for its initiative on the Lower Mekong Countries issue, which will help push for the integration between the older and newer ASEAN members, said the assistant.
