Inside Cambodia Angkor Air's Lounge at Phnom Penh International Airport

Here's a random peek inside the home airport lounge of Cambodia Angkor Air, the national carrier of Cambodia. On a trip from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City, we booked ourselves in Business Class and headed to their international lounge at the airport.

After a fairly seamless process with check-in, passport control and security, we made our way through the small departures area. Phnom Penh's airport plays host to only about six gates and the same amount of shops for the last chance to pick up some Cambodian souvenirs. You'll find this lounge is one of two airline lounges tucked away behind the obligatory duty-free shop. The other lounge belongs to Bangkok Airways and is open to all passengers flying that airline.

We flashed our business class boarding pass and entered the one-room lounge, which fortunately has plenty of seating for its small size. At first glance it didn't seem like much, but it was nice refuge from the rigid and crowded seats of the general boarding area. Add to the perks some complimentary coffee alcoholic beverages, light bites and super fast and free wifi, and we couldn't really complain.

The initial browse over the buffet area surprised us with a variety of options, including pre-packaged noodle dishes, petit-fours, sandwiches and fresh fruit. We weren't going to be left hungry for our short flight to Vietnam and, even though we were flying in the mid-morning, it didn't stop us from savoring one last Angkor, the national beer of Cambodia.

One of the best reasons to hit the lounge before flying is to get a few extra bars of charge for your devices; the lounge has passengers covered with plenty outlets, even if they're not installed in a glamorous way. Look for power strips peeking out from sofas.

Overall, lounge focuses on function over form but considering you're probably not headed on too far of a long-haul flight from Phnom Penh, it does its job to provide some comfort and refreshment well.
