Nok plane slips

A plane operated by Thai budget carrier Nok Air slipped off the runway, while landing at Udon Thani’s airport, Sunday, the airline reported.

The small aircraft, which was carrying 25 passengers and three crew, suffered engine trouble as it taxied to the gate after landing in the city of Udon Thani, a major town in Northeast Thailand 80 km from the border with Laos.

“The captain was able to stop the plane safely,” Nok Air said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, adding all on-board were “safe”.

The 34-seat SAAB 340B turboprop plane, which had flown from the northern city of Chiang Mai, will be towed from grass near the taxi area but is not disrupting other flights, the airline said.

Last month a Thai Airways International plane skidded off the runway in Bangkok after the landing gear malfunctioned, slightly injuring more than a dozen passengers as they escaped down the emergency slide.

In August, another Nok Air plane became wedged in mud after skidding off the runway during take-off at Trang airport in southern Thailand, briefly forcing the closure of the airport. No one was hurt in the incident.
