A new airport for Goa

GOA- A new Integrated Terminal building, built by the Airports Authority of India has been declared officially Shri Ajit Singh, Union Minister for Civil Aviation in the presence of Shri Bharat Vir Wanchoo, Governor of Goa, Shri Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister of Goa and Shri KC Venugopal, Minister of State for Civil Aviation.

The New Terminal Building at Goa is an integrated terminal building capable of handling both domestic and international operations. The terminal building is equipped with five passenger boarding bridges, has CUTE system which enable common check in as well as an automated baggage handling system.

The terminal building can handle up to 2,750 passengers during peak hours (2,000 domestic and 750 international passengers), the equivalent of  an annual capacity of 4.5 million passengers. However, this capacity might be too small as Goa handled 3.55 million passengers in fiscal year 2012/13, a number marginally higher at +0.6% over fiscal year 2011/12 (3.52 million passengers). However, as India’s economy is recovering, Goa expects to experience again double-digit growth rates in the years to come.

Keeping in view the growth of passenger traffic at Goa airport, the Airports Authority of India has already given a go ahead for development of western side finger of the terminal building, to further enhance the handling capacity and operational efficiency. Three additional passenger boarding bridges shall be provided.

The New Integrated Terminal building is expected to contribute towards the promotion of tourism in the state in particular and economic development in general.
