Heathrow bag tests delay TG shift

Thai Airways International says its plan to move from London’s Heathrow Airport Terminal 3 to Zone A of Terminal 2 has been postponed to late August.
Initially, the move was planned to take place 2 July.
THAI said in a statement Monday that the delay is due to Heathrow Airport’s decision to conduct unplanned testing of Heathrow’s baggage systems.
Until the new move date, flights will depart as normal from Heathrow’s Terminal 3.
“THAI’s postponed move will allow baggage systems to be further tested to ensure that they work properly. Journey times will not be affected and the Company apologises for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.
THAI is one of 23 Star Alliance airlines operating flights to and from Heathrow that will make Terminal 2 their new home. It will be the first time that all Star Alliance airlines are operating out of the same zone in a terminal building.
The Star Alliance member carriers serving Heathrow are Aegean Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EGYPTAIR, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, SWISS, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines, THAI, and United.
Heathrow’s Terminal 2 opened 4 June.
Terminal 2 is equipped with more automated processes and common facilities than what currently exists in Heathrow’s other terminals, such as self-service kiosks for check in and/or print a bag tag before proceeding to a bag drop desk.
Full-service traditional check-in desks will not be available for economy passengers, a decision that will not be welcomed by passengers who believe they are still entitled to a personalized check-in by a full-service airlines. Full-service check-in will be limited to First Class, Business Class, and Star Alliance Gold passengers only. There will be fast-track options for premium passengers to speed them through security checks.
