Passenger- centric initiatives are a top priority for India’s Civil Aviation Ministry, in a bid to improve the comfort level for passengers and make aviation more responsive to the needs of citizens.
According to a report released by the Government of India’s press information bureau, Monday, all Indian and foreign airlines and airport operators have been asked to deliver better facilities for passengers particularly senior citizens, expectant mothers and passengers with disabilities.
One of the provisions in the ministry’s list demands airports provide automated buggies and small hand baggage trolleys free of charge.
Security Help Desks will also be obligatory for all airports.
Air India has been told to simplify the forms for web booking and evolve a procedure for quicker disposal of refund and loss baggage claims.
The Directorate General Civil Aviation has been asked by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to create a “Passenger Know Your Rights” portal on its website, informing the travelling public about issues and advisories, availability of special assistance and facilities that must be provided by airlines/ airport operators.
