BANGKOK : Singapore Airlines’ low-cost unit Scoot has launched a mobile app called Scoot App for the iOS platform, complementing its website, call centre and travel agency booking channels.
The Scoot App is free, by simply downloading it at the Apple App Store.
Airline CEO, Campbell Wilson, said the Scoot App brings another level of convenience to passengers, allowing everyone to book a Scoot flight wherever they are.
“Booking a Scoot flight couldn’t be simpler and you’ll be making reservations in no time to get outta here!” he added.
Most low-cost airlines travellers are already very familiar with mobile app bookings after using them for considerable time to book and buy tickets on Scoot’s competitors.
The steps are very similar to website bookings. Once a booking has been confirmed and paid through a secure credit card proccess details can be retrieved by tapping the My Flights icon. Tapping the Fare Deals icon will display the airline’s latest low fares and promotions.
The Scoot App also displays practical information through a destination guide, food and beverages menu and route map.
The Destination Guide provides a summary of all the destinations the airline serves; very basic get-by information.
In the coming weeks the airline will be rolling out Scoot apps for Android, iPad as well as a mobile-optimised website. Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Manage My Booking and many other features are in the pipeline.
Scoot will shift its all flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) starting 1 September, when it begins commercial cooperation with Thailand’s Nok Air.
The move to Don Mueang Airport is seen as the prelude to a joint venture with Nok Air that will be called NokScoot and offer mid-haul services to points in Asia.
The Nok Air tie-up will allow Scoot to offer its passengers connections to 21 domestic destinations in Thailand as the first part of the joint venture.
Eventually, the two airlines will establish a new airline, NokScoot, that will extend Scoot’s influence and network throughout Thailand. It will provide seamless links it to Scoot services out of Singapore and even connections to Singapore Airlines’ long-haul services out of the Changi gateway.
Scoot™ operates medium and long haul no-frills flights between Singapore and Sydney, Gold Coast, Bangkok, Taipei, Tokyo, Tianjin, Shenyang, Nanjing, Qingdao, Seoul, Hong Kong and Perth.
Nok Air is serves mainly domestic destinations in Thailand plus a couple of destinations in Myanmar. THAI Airways International has a substantial stake in the airline but not management control.
