PHNOM PENH Cambodia Bayon Airlines says it is getting closer to a launch date for its domestic services.
The airline’s parent company, Bayon Holdings Limited ‘svice president, Taing Chung Leang, told local media that Cambodia Bayon Airlines plans its launch by the end of the year.
“Bayon will sign an agreement with state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) this Thursday – the same day the company announces its official establishment in Cambodia.”
He added: “We will fly scheduled services from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap on the hour, while flights from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville will be scheduled twice daily.”
The airline will soon lease two Ark 60 aircrafts from the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).
The vice president said the new aircraft can carry up to 50 passengers and the company plans to expand its fleet to five planes by the end of 2015.
“We see a big potential for frequent domestic flights as tourists to Cambodia increase annually.”
The firm is in the process of applying for an Air Operators Certificate from the Secretary of State Secretariat of Civil Aviation of Cambodia (SSCA).
The SSCA general director, Keo Sivorn, told the Phnom Penh Post that Bayon was on track to gain its licence by the end of the year.
Currently, only Cambodia Angkor Air and the little-known Siem Reap-based operator, Skywings Asia Airlines, have valid AOCs, according to the director general.
