AoT revises expansion budget

BANGKOK  Airports of Thailand will reduce its budget for the second phase of Suvarnabhumi Airport expansion from the initial THB62.5 billion to THB61.6 billion.
The Board of Directors chairman, Prasong Poontaneat, said after a new feasibility study AoT has reduced the budget for the airport expansion. However, all major aspects of the second phase are on track for construction to begin early next year.
The revised budget plan will be proposed to Ministry of Transport for approval next Tuesday.
inside no 1According to the project, AoT plans to spend THB19 billion for a new runway, THB11 billion for parking and a tunnel, THB29 billion for a terminal complex that will also include a car park and monorail system, and THB2.6 billion for other facilities and infrastructure.
The new passenger terminal should increase passenger capacity from 15 million to 20 million while other new facilities would increase the airport’s overall service competency.
Last year, the airport handled 52 million passengers. This year, the gateway airport will see passenger traffic drop to around 48 to 50 million a decline of 3.8% to 7.7%.
