BANGKOK Thai Airways International will either delay or suspend some flights to North Thailand during Loy Krathong, as a safety precaution, 5 to 7 November.THAI Aviation Safety, Security and Standards Department’s vice president, Pratana Patanasiri, said that during 5 to 7 November, people in the northern provinces will release thousands of floating lanterns during the Loy Krathong Festival and it could pose a risk to aircraft flying at low altitude.
“As floating lanterns are released at night, THAI is adjusting its flight schedule and temporarily suspending certain flights on the Bangkok-Chiang Mai-Bangkok route as a precautionary measure to avoid the risk of floating lanterns being sucked into an aircraft engine.”
