Airbus A350 on tour

BANGKOK Airbus flew its all-new A350 XWB to Bangkok for the first time as part of a five-city Asian demonstration tour that also visited airline customers in Seoul, Tokyo, Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur.
The A350-900 MSN5, a flight test aircraft, arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Monday, for a special 90-minute flight for airline guests, local officials and media, Tuesday.
It was designed to impress A350 XWB customer Thai Airways International (THAI), which has orders on the books for 12 of the new aircraft including eight leased aircraft and four purchased directly from Airbus.
inside no 1THAI will operate the A350 XWB on premium long-range services, as well as selected regional routes. The airline will receive the aircraft in mid-2016.
Speaking at the press conference Tuesday, A350 XWB marketing director customer affairs Mike Bausor said the A350 XWB was the latest addition to the market-leading Airbus Widebody product line.
It will seat up to 369 passengers in a two-class layout and can fly nonstop for up to 8,000 nautical miles.
It features the latest aerodynamic design, a carbon fibre fuselage and wings, plus new fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.
“Together, these latest technology advances translate into unrivalled levels of operational efficiency, with a 25% reduction in fuel burn and emissions and significantly lower maintenance costs.”
For passengers, the A350 XWB should bring new levels of in-flight comfort, with an extra-wide cabin offering more personal space in all classes, including 18 inch wide seats as standard in economy class.
For premium classes the aircraft will have the more comfortable lie-flat seats in an layout to optimise space, while passengers in all classes will enjoy the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems including Wi-Fi.
The quiet cabin also features wide panoramic windows to offer more natural light during day flights and the glass darkens in fading light to match outside conditions. It also claims to have the latest draught-free air conditioning system allowing precision temperature control, the director explained.
inside no 1.1The aircraft displayed in Bangkok was fitted with a two-class cabin layout with 42 lie-flat business class seats in a four abreast configuration and 223 economy-class seats with 32-34 inch pitch set nine abreast.
“The A350 XWB has been successful in the Asia-Pacific region, where airlines have ordered 244 aircraft, representing a third of the 750 orders recorded so far worldwide.”
He added: “Air traffic will double in the next 15 years…Asia transport growth is the highest in expanding regions which the number of passengers will grow 6% year-on-year by 2033.”
“Asia-Pacific will also be the leader in world traffic by 2033 which is expected 5.7% growth compared to world annual traffic growth of 4.7%.”
In addition to THAI, major customers from the region also include Asiana Airlines, Air China, Cathay Pacific Airways, China Airlines, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Vietnam Airlines.
Qatar Airways is the lead customer, with orders of 80 aircraft ahead of Singapore Airlines that orders for 70. Qatar Airways is expected to receive its first A350 next month.
