Japan Airlines (JAL) has unveiled a new initiative that will offer travellers to Japan free Wi-Fi anywhere in the country.

In partnership with Wire and Wireless Co Ltd (Wi2), JAL’s passengers can now obtain an ID and password from the airline’s international websites allowing them to connect to the Wi2 Wi-Fi network at up to 200,000 hotspots across Japan.

The service is free-of-charge and available for up to seven days.

“We are pleased to enter into a cooperation with Wi2 so that we can provide our overseas customers travelling to Japan with an even higher level of service,” said Yoshiharu Ueki, president of JAL. “And we hope our customers will have a more enjoyable visit because they can now more easily stay connected.”

The service was rolled out on 2 December 2014, initially on JAL’s English-language websites. It will now be gradually expanded to 10 other foreign language sites.
