Delta Air Lines will commence a new service between Los Angeles and Shanghai this summer.

Launching on 9 July 2014, the route will be operated daily using a 291-seat Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, offering 37 seats in business class, 36 in premium economy and 218 in economy. Passengers will also be able to connect onwards to 25 Chinese cities via Delta’s codeshare partners.

“Delta’s new non-stop service provides our business customers with more access to Shanghai and markets beyond through our partnerships with China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines,” said Ranjan Goswami, Delta’s vice president of sales.

“This route was the most requested by our corporate customers, and everyone will enjoy the investments we’ve made to upgrade our airport facilities, our onboard service, full flat-bed seats with direct aisle access in BusinessElite, and industry-leading complimentary in-flight entertainment.”

Flights will depart Los Angeles International Airport every day at 1315, arriving at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport at 1815 the following day. The return service will then leave Pudong at 2055, getting back into LAX at 1815 the same day, having crossed the International Date Line.

The Shanghai service will become Delta’s fourth daily direct flight from LAX to the Asia Pacific region, joining existing routes to Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda and Sydney. The airline also flies daily to Beijing from both Seattle and Detroit.
