Phan Thiet airport ceremony

BINH THUAN, 22 January 2015: Tourism to Phan Thiet is likely to improve in 2018 when an airport capable of handling small aircraft opens.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Defense in collaboration with Binh Thuan People’s Committee held a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of Phan Thiet Airport at Thien Nghiep commune in Binh Thuan province 18 January.
The airport will cover 543 hectares, and will be built to meet International Civil Aviation Organisation 4C grade standards.
It will consist of one 2,400-metre long runway and a 5,000-square-metre terminal and will be able to serve 500,000 passengers per year.
inside no 3The airport will be capable of receiving ATR72-600, F70, BAE146-300, and Bombardier or similar aircraft versions. The aircraft can seat around 60 to 80 passengers.
The Vietnamese-owned Rang Dong Group will invest in the airport’s civil section that will cover around 80% of its area.
Phan Thiet’s is the first-ever airport to be built under the terms of build-operate-transfer (BOT) in Vietnam, which is viewed as “breakthrough” and a possible model for other airports in the country.
It will cost around USD262.47 million to build and should be ready for the first commercial flight late 2018.
The group director, Nguyen Van Dong, told local media that the company was keen to invest in the airport in order to serve the expansion of hotels and a golf course.
“The airport would spur the province’s socio-economic development by enhancing its investment attractiveness, luring more new projects to the region.”
The airport will also boost tourism by cutting the travel times to the popular holiday destination.
Rang Dong Group, which was founded in 1991, operates in tourism, traffic infrastructure, golf courses, mining, forest plantation, and real estate trading. The group currently operates Ocean Vista Apartments in Mui Ne’s Sea Links City.
