SilkAir aids Child’s Dream

SINGAPORE  SilkAir has adopted Child’s Dream Foundation, a charitable, not-for-profit organisation based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The non-government organisation empowers marginalised children and youth in the Mekong Sub-Region, mainly in Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia focusing on improving the educational and health.
SilkAir’s chief executive officer, Leslie Thng, and Co-Founder of Child’s Dream Foundation, Marc Jenni, officially sealed a three-year collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding at a signing ceremony held today at Child’s Dream headquarters in Chiang Mai this week.
Commenting on the partnership, Thng said: “As the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, we believe that we have a duty to stimulate positive change within the region. It has always been SilkAir’s goal to reach out to the communities in Southeast Asian destinations we serve and we are thrilled to be able to support the good work of Child’s Dream.”

“Singapore is an important and growing fundraising market for us and having SilkAir at our side, will help us to keep our administration cost under control.”
Under the three-year partnership, SilkAir will offer a tickets for Child’s Dream staff for work-related travel between various SilkAir points. In addition, a free cargo allowance will be extended for the transportation of donations made to the beneficiaries. This will help the foundation reduce its operating costs and allow funds to be channelled to the organization’s core work.
SilkAir offers 350 weekly flights to 48 destinations in 12 countries. Recent additions to the network include Hangzhou (June 2014), Denpasar (Dec 2014) and will start operations to Cairns on 30 May 2015. The airline currently has a fleet of 26 aircraft, comprising 5 A319s and 13 A320s and 8 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. In August 2012, the airline announced the largest order in its history of up to 68 Boeing 737 aircraft, with firm orders comprising 23 Boeing 737-800s and 31 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.
