BANGKOK More international airlines could start flights to Don Mueang Airport according to airport general manager, Wing Commander Songsak Tongtang,
He said two international airlines are looking to start flights to Don Mueang International Airport soon.
“Maldivian Airline, is asking for traffic right that would allow it to offer up to daily flights to Don Mueang and is waiting to receive permission from the Department of Civil Aviation.”
He said: “Once the airline starts a service, it will encourage tourism between Thailand and Maldives especially for Thais as the Maldives is a popular destination.”
inside no 1If it gains approval it is likely it will start with a daily flight to match Bangkok Airways, which currently operates a daily flight from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport) to the Maldives.
He added: “Japan’s Peach Airline is also planning a service from Japan’s Kansai to Don Mueang this year. The airline is in talks with the Thai aviation authorities as well as conducting a feasibility study.”
Thai AirAsia X operates five weekly flights to Osaka Kansai International Airport, but frequency will increase to daily 26 March.
Currently, 14 airlines fly to Don Mueang, all low-cost carriers, such as Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X, THAI Smile and Nok Air.
