Vietjet takes delivery of A320s

SINGAPORE Vietjet took delivery of its newest Airbus aircraft at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, 12 February.
The brand new Airbus A320 is the third of the 100 aircraft on order. The airline announced it was buying A320s in September 2013. The arrival of VN-A659 brings Vietjet’s current fleet to 21, in time to accommodate travel demand during the Lunar New Year holiday season that starts 18 February.
Vietjet will take delivery of the next A320 aircraft in Thailand, this March. It will be used for the first services of the joint venture, Thai Vietjet, in lead up to the busy Songkran festival holiday in mid April.
inside no 5.1 inside no 5Thai Vietjet will operate domestic flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok to Phuket, Udon Thani and Krabi, as well as international flights between Bangkok and Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
The joint venture is with local partner Kan Air, based in Chiang Mai, that offers small commuter plane services for domestic travellers in North Thailand.
Vietjet will manage and operate the airline, but Kan Air will hold a majority stake of 51% of the equity to meet Thailand’s regulations on foreign investment in the aviation industry.
With a fleet of 21 Airbus A320 aircraft, Vietjet operates approximately 150 flights daily serving 28 domestic and international routes across the region, including Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan and Cambodia. As more A320s are delivered it will expand its network throughout Asia.
