Air Tahiti Nui selects Dreamliner for long-haul revamp

Air Tahiti Nui has announced plans to revamp its fleet, and has selected the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to replace its existing fleet of Airbus A340s.

The airline, which serves long-haul routes to and from Tahiti, will acquire four B787-9 aircraft – two owned and two leased – with deliveries commencing in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The fleet revamp will coincide with the airline’s 20th anniversary.

“We are very excited to partner with Boeing to deliver the very latest innovations in comfort and technology to our global customers. The new fleet investment will help future-proof travel to and from the Islands of Tahiti, and assist the acceleration in visitor growth,” said Air Tahiti Nui’s chairman, Michel Monvoisin.

Dinesh Keskar, Boeing’s senior vice president of sales for Asia Pacific & India, added that the new aircraft, which feature larger windows, would offer passengers “a commanding view of the horizon above beautiful Tahiti”.

At present, Air Tahiti Nui operates a fleet of five 296-seat, two-class A340-300 aircraft on routes connecting the French Polynesian capital, Papeete, with international gateway cities including Auckland, Los Angeles, Paris and Tokyo.

The Dreamliner order is expected to be confirmed in the coming months.
