HO CHI MINH CITY Tan Son Nhat International Airport’s management is recommending a flyover be built at the airport to ease traffic congestion on approach roads to the terminal.
Local media reported that the airport hopes to secure permission from the municipal government to build at least one flyover at its entrance to relieve traffic congestion.
According to a written proposal the airport claims vehicle traffic on two roads at the terminal is causing delays to passengers.
Tan Son Nhat is currently Vietnam’s busiest airport handling around 20 million passengers a year. It will be heavily congested by 2017, when passenger traffic is expected to exceed the maximum capacity of 25 million.
inside no 2The airport deputy director, Pham Vu Cuong, said, the two roads are very crowded with frequent jams, especially during peak hours.
“If the proposed flyover is not built, the situation will worsen for travellers using the airport.”
Flyovers are touted as effective infrastructure to reduce traffic jams in Ho Chi Minh City. The city has six steel flyovers, built 2012 to 2013 in areas seriously affected by traffic congestion, the report said.
