BANGKOK AirAsia will launch four weekly flights each connecting Pattaya to Kuala Lumpur 16 July and Bangkok to Malaysia’s southern hub of Johor Bahru on 17 July.
AirAsia Berhad commercial head, Spencer Lee, said AirAsia will be the sole airline to operate direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Pattaya (U Tapao Airport).
“Last year alone we have carried over 2 million guests between Thailand and Malaysia and together with our affiliate airline Thai AirAsia (FD), we intend to strengthen the group’s flight network and connectivity coupled with our low fares.”
The new flight from Pattaya will be popular with expatriate residents who need to extend their visas to stay in Thailand. There is also a growing interest in Rayong and Pattaya in Kuala Lumpur for short breaks.
inside no 4Kuala Lumpur is a gateway to the UNESCO Heritage Site of Melaka, just an hour’s drive away from the airport. Apart from that, other interesting attractions nearby Kuala Lumpur include Genting Highlands, the city of entertainment on the peak of a mountain, as well as the scenic and cooling Cameron Highlands.
AirAsia also will be the only airline operating direct flights from Bangkok to Johor Bahru, Malaysia from Bangkok.
“Travel demand between Thailand and Malaysia is growing fast and there are shows no signs of the growth rate slowing. The upcoming route will further stimulate travel demand between the two cities and boost tourism growth for the region,” the head said.
“Besides the enhanced connectivity, this route will also offer guests more flexibility in their travel planning. For example, they can travel from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, and travel down to the beach resort Port Dickson, the UNESCO World Heritage site Melaka city, then return to Bangkok from Johor Bahru, ideal for backpackers and family group who wish to explore more cities in Malaysia,” he added.
Johor Bahru is the state capital of Johor located at the southern tip of peninsular Malaysia. It is a bustling city with great shopping and food that has attracted tourists from all over the region, especially with the opening of Asia’s first Legoland in Johor.
