Singapore Airlines has unveiled its new premium economy seats and cabin features, ahead of the launch of the new travel class this August.

Following a two-year development programme and an investment of approximately US$80 million, the new seats were displayed for the first time in Singapore today.

Each leather seat has a width of either 18.5 or 19.5 inches (47-49.5cm), depending on aircraft type, with an eight-inch recline and a 38-inch pitch. Passengers will also be offered in-flight entertainment with a 13.3-inch HD screen, an in-seat power socket, two USB ports and extra storage space.

“Many of our customers have been asking for a premium economy offering and we are confident that what we are delivering will exceed their expectations,” said SIA’s executive vice president of commercial, Mak Swee Wah. “The new cabin product is the culmination of two years of work, which included extensive research and focus group studies involving customers and our design partners.

“Our premium economy class will provide customers more comfort and in-flight amenities. Complemented by the exceptional service that Singapore Airlines is so well known for, the new cabin class will be a great new way to fly.”

As well as the new seats, passengers flying in SIA’s new premium economy cabins will be offered a greater choice of F&B, including pre-selected meals, plus 35kg of checked baggage. At the airport, passengers will be offered priority check-in and baggage handling services, and members of SIA’s KrisFlyer programme will receive 10% more miles.

SIA’s new premium economy cabins will be rolled out across 19 Airbus A380s and 19 Boeing 777-300ERs, as well as the airline’s first 20 Airbus A350s, which will enter service from 2016.

The new class will be launched on 9 August 2015 on the Singapore-Sydney route, before being introduced to Beijing, Delhi, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, London, Mumbai, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Zurich.
