Vietnam’s new airport ready 2023

HO CHI MINH CITY  Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport says although the National Assembly (NA) approved the Long Thanh international airport project in Dong Nai province, last month, construction cannot begin earlier than 2019.
Saigon Times quoted Transport Minister Dinh La Thang saying more time was needed for relevant parties to prepare a feasibility study and submit it to the NA for consideration.
Airports Corporation of Vietnam general director, Le Manh Hung, said that after the airport project won the legislature’s approval, the government has to assign relevant agencies to conduct a feasibility study.
“ACV will pick consultants for the feasibility study via an international tender. It will take ACV six to eight months to select consultants and 15 to 17 months to complete feasibility project.”
inside no 4Therefore, construction cannot begin in 2019. The project is scheduled for completion in 2022 and should open for the first commercial flights in 2023, the report said.
The ministry has asked the Prime Minister to choose ACV as the investor of the airport project in Dong Nai.
The Prime Minister introduced the Long Thanh airport project to the Japanese government and companies during his visit to Japan to attend the 7th Mekong-Japan summit last week.
According to the transport minister, the Japanese showed interest in the three-phase airport project which will cost USD16 billion as well as a high-speed railway plan in Vietnam.
The airport is planned for construction in Long Thanh, Dong Nai province, southern Vietnam.
Located approximately 40 km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City, it is intended to serve over 100 million passengers annually when all phases are completed.
