BANGKOK  To mark THAI and Tourism Authority of Thailand’s 55th anniversaries, this year, the national airline hosed 100 children on flights to Bangkok in a project shared with the national tourist office.
It was part of the airline’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme that offered three-day field trips, 21 to 23 July, to children living in North and South Thailand so they could tour Thailand’s capital.
The hosted flights to Bangkok started in Chiang Mai and Phuket.
The field trip included a visit to THAI’s aircraft maintenance hangar, which is the largest in Southeast Asia and a cultural field trip to major tourists attractions in Bangkok to allow children an opportunity to see their capital city.

Charamporn Jotikasthira, president of Thai Airways International and Sukree Sitthiwanich, deputy director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), presided over the launch of the “THAI-TAT Flight and Field Trip” for underprivileged children.
THAI supports what it calls “creative learning experiences” outside the classroom and recognises the importance of inspiring young children, so they may grow to be quality citizens.
Based on TAT’s selection process, children between 12 to 15 years of age who live in foster care homes, or orphanages in northern and southern Thailand, who have a good academic record, were selected to participate in the event.
THAI and the Tourism Authority of Thailand worked hand-in-hand on the project as they share the same goal to promote Thainess values, encourage sustainable tourism and help children gain knowledge and appreciation Thai art, culture, while learning about the sufficiency economy by visiting historical venues.
They visited the Grand Palace, the Emerald Buddha and also toured important sites of history and culture such as the Rattanakosin Exhibition at the Contemporary Art Centre, Chedi Phukhao Thong at Wat Saket Ratcha Wora Maha Vihara, andRoyal Chitralada Project.
As a change of pace, the children were treated to a visit to SEALIFE, Bangkok Ocean World.
