THAI avoids lantern threat

BANGKOK Thai Airways International will make adjustments to its flight schedule, 12 to 16 November, during the Loi Krathong festival week.

On some routes flights will increase, but there will also be some flight cancellations ,or adjustments,  to avoid potential risk from people launching sky lanterns close to Chiang Mai airport.

THAI’s Aviation Safety, Security & Standards Department vice president, Flight Lieutenant Pratana Patanasiri, said that during Loi Krathong Festival, northern provinces  release lanterns, which could pose a safety risks for flights taking off and landing.

inside no 9The airline will adjust or cancel flights mainly in the evenings at Chiang Mai Airport to reduce the risk, 12 to 16 November.

Cancelled flights

TG120 and return flight, TG121, on the Bangkok-Chiang Mai-Bangkok route, 14 to 15 November.

Flights changed

TG116, 13 November, normally departs from Bangkok at 1720 and arrives in Chiang Mai at 1830. The departure from Bangkok has been brought forward to 1520. TG117, the return leg, will depart Chiang Mai at 1720 instead of 1920.

TG120, 13 November, will depart Bangkok at 1550 (instead of 1840) and will arrive in Chiang Mai at 1710. The return flight TG121 will depart Chiang Mai at 1750 instead of 2050.

TG103, 14 November, will depart from Chiang Mai at 0955 instead 1005.

TG105, 14 November, will depart Chiang Mai at 1205 instead of 1040.

TG116, 14 to 15 November, will depart from Bangkok at 1550 instead of 1720. TG117, 14 to 15 November, will depart from Chiang Mai at 1750 instead of 1920.

Flight increases

Flights will increase to meet passenger demand during Loi Krathong Festival, 12 to 16 November. Details of additional flights:

TG8718 departs from Bangkok at 1105 and arrives in Chiang Mai at 1215. TG8719 departs from Chiang Mai at 1315 and arrives in Bangkok at 1425.

TG8716, 15 November, departs from Bangkok at 0910 and arrives in Chiang Mai at 1020.TG8717, 15 November, departs from Chiang Mai at 1135 and arrives in Bangkok at 1245.
