Qatar flies double beds

BERLIN Qatar Airways unveiled a new business class experience, QSuite, to a packed press conference at ITB Berlin Wednesday.

Predictably, the introduction of the first ever double bed in business class was the top line for media who conjectured that it could make membership of the mile-high-club far too easy.

A hushed silence descended on the airline’s massive pavilion at ITB as the new seat was unveiled by a smiling airline’s group CEO, Akbar Al Baker, just moments before the airline’s annual press conference got underway on the opening day of the  show.

The new Qatar Airways QSuite is unveiled by Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, H.E. Mr Akbar Al Baker, on the opening day of the ITB Berlin exhibition.

Airline cabin attendants ushered trade visitors on quick guided tour of the mock-up QSuite features.

It claims to be the industry’s first-ever double bed available in business class, with privacy panels that stow away, allowing passengers in adjoining seats to create their own private room. Adjustable panels and movable TV monitors on the centre four seats allow colleagues, friends or families travelling together to transform their space into a private suite, allowing them to work, dine and socialise together.

The airline’s group chief executive said: “Today I am proud to unveil the future of premium travel with our new QSuite business class. Our patented design is a world first in many ways and challenges industry norms by offering passengers more privacy, more choice and more personalisation.”
