Kan hits technical turbulence

CHIANG MAI Kan Air stopped all operations, last month, due to technical difficulties, according to Thailand Aviation News.

Using the flight designator K8 the airline operates out of its  Chiang Mai base using a single ATR72-500 and a Cessna Grand Caravan. Both aircraft were grounded due to technical issues.

Kan Air President Somphong Sooksanguan told local media there was no intention to close the airline permanently.

At the time he said the airline would be ready to resume domestic services from Chiang Mai this month.

Repeated efforts to contact the airline by phone for an update on the airline’s status failed.

However, the airline’s president earlier insisted he would expand Kan Air’s fleet with the addition of three ATR72-500s and ultimately one A319-100.

If the ATR fleet expansion materialises Kan Air would be able to resume its Bangkok Don Mueang – Mae Sot route and add a flight from Bangkok to Phrae, while the addition of the A319 would allow it to increase its Don Mueang – Chiang Mai flights to twice daily.
