UBON RATCHATHANI Thai AirAsia will launch a new service linking Ubon Ratchathani, in lower northeast Thailand with Chiang Mai, the biggest city in North, Thailand, effective 23 June.
Thai AirAsia’s commercial director, Santisuk Klongchaiya, said the new route corresponded to the airline’s policy to offer more direct connections between domestic destinations to save travellers time and costs.
“The airline views Ubon Ratchathani as the highest potential hub of the Northeast. Since the beginning of 2017, the airline has been adding routes from the province, starting 30 March with direct flights to Pattaya (U-Tapao), which were well received.”
The new service will the first direct flight between Ubon Ratchathani which borders southern Laos, and Chiang Mai in the north, cutting hours off travelling time. Passengers save having to fly to Bangkok and to connect with a flight north to Chiang Mai.
It should encourage tourists to travel between the two destinations.
He cited: “The new route will connect the lower northeast to the northern province of Chiang Mai, creating opportunities for economic growth and investment as well as making more convenient for tourists and locals to travel between the two points.”
