Indus unveils its brand new brochure of holiday options in Sri Lanka & The Maldives

SYDNEY - The beautifully designed, coffee-table-style brochure of Indus covers all the highlights of this enticing region, offering a selection of unique touring suggestions along with a menu of hand-picked products and experiences that can be individually crafted into every customer's dream holiday. From wildlife and World Heritage Sites to sandy shores and relaxing resorts, Indus’s thoughtfully laid-out Sri Lanka & the Maldives brochure encompasses all the key sights and experiences in this captivating corner of the world, alongside fantastic photography that captures the essence of the destinations' exotic appeal.  And of course, every holiday comes with the high levels of quality, service and consumer confidence for which Indus is respected and renowned.
The teardrop-shaped Emerald Island (as Sri Lanka is sometimes known) and exotic atolls of the Maldives are brimming with incredible sights and experiences.  To help make sense of the abundance of options, Indus has put together eight exclusive, inspirational and differently themed itineraries (each private tour features the services of an English-speaking chauffeur/guide) that customers can use as flexible blueprints to which they can add, amend or substitute elements according to individual tastes. These itineraries are supplemented with a carefully selected range of luxury hotels - including well-known brands as Park Hyatt, Taj, Four Seasons and Banyan Tree - which Indus has negotiated attractive rates, allowing clients to tailor-make their own, one-of-a-kind luxury experience that guarantees individuality and value for money.
Geveral of the suggested Sri Lankan itineraries will be of particular appeal to wildlife enthusiasts. The island is home to a wealth of exciting animals, including sea turtles, blue whales, Asian elephants and some of the most visible leopards (a notoriously secretive species) to be found anywhere in the world. All of these can be encountered on the 14-day Whales, Dolphins & Leopards itinerary, which combines the National Parks of Yala and Wilpattu with offshore excursions to spot whales and dolphins.  Around 26 different cetacean species are known to frequent Sri Lanka's waters, including sperm whales, spinner dolphins and the largest animal that has ever lived - the mighty blue whale. Back on dry land, Wilpattu is the country's biggest National Park and holds good populations of elephants, leopards and spotted deer, while Yala's leopards are famously approachable, making them a favourite subject for budding photographers. The itinerary also includes a visit to a turtle hatchery to see newborn sea turtles of different species, plus a chance to observe the incredible and unique Stilt Fishermen as they balance atop poles firmly sunk in the shallows, waiting for supper to swim past below.
For an even more in-depth wildlife experience, the 16-day Sri Lankan Nature Trail itinerary has been designed to take in a wide variety of natural habitats to maximise encounters with flora and fauna - including a good range of island endemics. Habitat highlights include the marshes and lagoons of Muthurajawela Wetlands and Bundala National Park; the jungles of Sinharaja Rainforest and Horton Plains; and the wildlife-rich expanses of Yala National Park. A visit to both Hakgala and Peradeniya Botanical Gardens provides an insight into the island's rich flora, which includes gigantic trees and many kinds of orchid. And for those with a soft spot for elephants, the Pinnewela Elephant Orphanage is an absolute must-see for up-close encounters with adorable baby elephants.
For something more unusual, Indus has added a unique touring itinerary that follows In The Footsteps of Geoffrey Bawa - the internationally acclaimed modernist architect, who died in 2003. Bawa was one of the most influential Asian architects of his generation, with a 'Tropical Modernism' style combining traditional Sri Lankan influences with edgy, contemporary flair.  The itinerary includes plenty of opportunities for relaxing in beautiful hotels, many of which were designed by Bawa himself, such as the Heritance Kandalama and aptly-named The Last House - a beachfront, boutique bolthole that was Bawa's final oeuvre.  Other elements of cultural interest include visits to the incredible rock fortress at Sigiriya and the ancient temple of Yapahuwa, while few could fail to be won over by the Marine Turtle Conservation Project at Rekawa - just a short hop from The Last House.
Sri Lanka's grand, colonial buildings are equally impressive. This heritage is a focus of Indus' 12-day discovery of The Colonial Collection. This itinerary takes in some of the island's most beautiful countryside and some impressive, colonial-style accommodation such as Colombo's Galle Face Hotel and the elegant Mount Lavinia (originally the British governor's weekend retreat). In keeping with the theme, the itinerary includes a chance to discover the secrets of the island's most famous export whilst staying at a restored planter's bungalow among the tea plantations of the verdant highlands.  Other highlights include a visit to the Pinnewela Elephant Orphanage, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and an immaculately preserved fort (a relic of Dutch colonial rule) in the seaside city of Galle.
For an introduction into both of the brochure's headline destinations, Indus' 16-day Island Odyssey combines the best of Sri Lanka and the Maldives into one convenient and well-planned touring itinerary. All of Sri Lanka's most impressive attractions are featured, including tea plantations, elephants (both wild and tame) and the cultural highlights of Kandy, Sigiriya and the medieval capital of Polonnaruwa. The holiday concludes with a relaxing, seven-night stay at the Palm Beach Resort & Spa, whose white sands and desert island lifestyle are the perfect foil to Sri Lanka's frenetic sights.
Commenting on the new Sri Lanka & Maldives brochure, Yasin Zagar, Managing Director of Indus Tours, said, "Our new programme allows customers old and new to experience this fascinating region at its very best. Travelling with Indus - a multi-award-winning company with 18 years' experience - also means that customers know they're in good hands and their holiday is 100% financially protected. What's more, every booking generates a donation to our Indus Gives Back programme, which supports an aid project in rural Sri Lanka that provides housing and education for disadvantaged children.  This makes our holidays as rewarding for local communities as they are for our discerning guests!"
