MACAU - At a recent press conference at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, organisers of the China (Macau) International Yacht Import and Export Fair announced that this year’s show will be held from November 1 to 3, 2013. The inaugural event of 2011 was held at the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf, while the second edition was an all-indoor event at the Venetian Cotai.
This year’s event will have both an in-water and dry exhibition portion. The in-water event will be held at the Macau Green Island (Ilha Verde) Yacht Club, while the dry portion will be at the Venetian Cotai Expo, with 20,000 square metres of floor space.
Macau surpassed Las Vegas in gaming revenue in the mid-2000s. Macau's casino business brought in US$38 billion in 2012, more than six times the amount of Las Vegas, according to Bloomberg. The show also comes amid a growing chorus of demands for marina spaces in Macau, with several proposals being initiated.
The Macau (Green Island) Yacht Club will have more than 20 new large luxury yacht berths available for the show, while the Venetian Cotai Expo location will exhibit sailing boats, power boats, speed boats, boat engines, marine accessories, docks and facilities design, tourism and charter, water sports, high-end lifestyle and related services. A number of well-known brands from Italy, the US, the UK, Netherlands and Germany are expected to bring new boats to the show. Organisers have invited representatives from UCINA (Italy) and ICOMIA (UK), as well as a number of other boating organizations from the US, Germany, Australia, and Taiwan to participate in this Macau Yacht Show.
Gordon Hui, Director of Sunseeker Asia, speaking after the formal announcements of the press conference, was quoted as saying that “in my opinion, (the) Macau Yacht Show is as important as any of the Hong Kong boat shows. It’s all about serving China, and it give an occasion for our China dealers to get together, and talk to our China customers. Hong Kong is full already, so the Hong Kong and Macau shows are a shop window for China. What I would like to see from the organisers of Macau Yacht Show is that they publicise this event throughout the whole of China – this really is a very important venue.”
Organisers are also promising a number of VIP luxury experiences for attendees, including swimwear fashion shows, design shows and other events designed to showcase the yachting life.
