Hoi An gets heritage hand out

Two derelict houses in Hoi An will get a US$133,000 remake according provincial officials.
The grant will cover repairs of two ruined houses on Nguyen Thai Hoc street, but it will take as long as three years to fully restore the houses.
Hoi An ancient town, which is an UNESCO World Heritage site, has over 1,000 houses listed as historical assets. They are between 100 and 200 years old.
Hoi An recently won a Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Award for 2013. It was ranked the second most popular destination in Asia, bested only by Kyoto in Japan.
During January to September this year, Quang Nam province attracted 2.6 million leisure trips, an increase of 19.32% over the same period of 2012. Most of them are domestic trips with international tourism at around 10% of total visits.
