Agua Beijing unveils a Fiesta of Culinary Surprises for its 5th anniversary season

BEIJING - Multi award-winning Spanish restaurant Agua Beijing is preparing a fiesta of culinary feasts throughout October and November 2013. Agua's mission is to highlight fresh seasonal produce and "capture the soul of modern Spain," and the fall dining season will include delicious new contemporary Spanish dishes created by award-winning Chef Jordi Valles from Barcelona.

Agua is gearing up for its 5th anniversary in Beijing, and in October it received an early birthday present when Spain's world number one tennis player, Rafael Nadal, and compatriot and world number four, David Ferrer, dined at the restaurant during the 2013 China Open tournament. Agua also completed its first outdoor catering assignment when Chef Jordi prepared a special menu at the Spanish Embassy in Beijing during the Spanish National Day celebrations.

A mouthwatering array of new dishes is also being added to the a la carte menu from 14 October. Seasonal tapas selections include Mallorquin mini sandwiches, filled with homemade sobrassada sausage and cheese; and Moruno-style pork skewers with chickpeas and leeks. Seafood specialties include Seared Spanish tuna belly and loin with cider apple and cauliflower, while meat lovers can enjoy the Wagyu beef cheeks with balsamic figs and black truffle pumpkin puree. Sweet treats include a dessert of?Caramelized mango tart with lemon and basil custard.

In November, Agua will participate for a second year in the annual Chi Fan for Charity. Beijing's premiere charity dining event takes place on Saturday 2 November, and many of the tables are hosted by Beijing's best-known personalities. City Weekend food writer and critic, Sarah Ting-Ting Hou, will host the Agua table with proceeds donated to two local charities, Little Flower Projects and Educating Girls of Rural China.

Beijing gourmands should mark their diaries for Friday 8 November - Agua Beijing’s 5th Year Anniversary Party. As a preview to the party on Thursday 7 November, Chef Jordi will create a sumptuous birthday gala dinner featuring Agua’s Top 5 most popular menu items the night before. Dishes will include Suckling Pig, Lobster Rice and a traditional Torrija, served with Catalan cream, almonds and rum. Agua will also present several birthday-related promotions and events during November.

Also in November, Agua hosts the Three Chefs and a Wine Guy gastronomic tour. This three-city culinary tour began in Hong Kong on 11 September, to mark Catalan National Day, before heading to Agua and culminating in Shanghai in December. Chef Jordi will be cooking up a storm his award-winning fellow chefs: Willy Trullas Moreno, from El Willy in Shanghai and Alex M. Fargas from FoFo by El Willy. Alberto Fernandez, Managing Partner of Torres China, will be in charge of wine pairing.

Diners attending the evening will enjoy a sumptuous menu of contemporary Catalan cuisine, including Slow-cooked monkfish roll with paprika and sprouts (prepared by Chef Alex & Chef Willy); Black ink rice topped with shrimp carpaccio and parsley and garlic foam (Chef Alex & Chef Willy); Seafood soup with red mullet, mussels and red prawn (Chef Jordi); Wagyu short rib served with marinated plums and pickled beetroot (Chef Jordi); and Typical Catalan cream and a cinnamon crispy biscuit (Chef Jordi).

Agua’s fun-filled fall season once again proves it is the place to savor hearty, warming Spanish dishes as the Beijing temperatures begin to fall. The chic dining room evokes the warm tones and textures of the Spanish landscape and provides an alluring setting for the vibrant contemporary cuisine. Agua Beijing has consistently been voted among the finest restaurants in the Chinese capital since it opened in 2008.
