BANGKOK - Comes Jaunary 15, 2014, Bangkok will offer a new attraction to its visitors that is poised to become a big hit: “Muay Thai Live-The Legend Lives” is a brand new glamorous production staged in by one of Thailand’s most renowned contemporary film director Ekachai Uekrongtham. The Show director is well known among movie-lovers for his award-winning and rather poetic movie “Beautiful Boxer”, who told about a transsexual Muay Thai boxer. Living in Singapore, he has been also acclaimed for his other movies, Pleasure Factory and the Coffin as well as for the musical over Siamese twins Chang and Eng.

“We have been approached by Asiatique management to create a show about Muay Thai. Thai boxing is an increasingly popular sport around the world, attracting thousands and thousands of viewers or people keen to learn this sport. The fascination comes from the inner conflict of Muay Thai performers and the spiritual value behind the sport”, says Mr. Uekrongtham, who praises this sport as a truly national heritage of Thai culture and identity.

A 2,000 m2 playhouse “the Stage” has been created to welcome the show, offering the most advanced technology. Light and sound surrounding viewers to the show will give them the impression to be part of the performance which is being played by 70 actors and actresses. “We are very confident of the success of the show. We shape the Muay Thai experience into a dance show but we offer at the same time to viewers an experience very similar to the Muay Thai, just sprinkled with a story”, explains Ekachai Uekrongtham.

“Actors had to train for seven months under the supervision of famous Muay Thai grandmaster Sane Tubtimtong. They learned how to master gestures as the performance can be dangerous for the body if it is not percfectly set. The result is spectacular and I am convinced that the public will be there”, he adds further.

Asiatique the Riverfront is turning increasingly into a hub for Thailand arts and heritage but in a way to remain accessible to the possibly largest crowd of visitors, all coming with different interests. Currently the average daily number of visitors at Asiatique the Riverfront tops 30,000 to 40,000. But during the high season, it can easily go up to 70,000 to 100,000 visitors. The new show should boost attendance by another 20% to 30%. “We believe that the show will mostly be seen by foreign visitors, especially Chinese, Japanese and Europeans. This is why, although dialogues are limited, we will provide some subtitles in English, Japanese and Mandarin”, tells Ekachai Uekrongtham.

Reservations are open directly for individuals at thaiticketmasters.com while travel agents and professionals will be able to contact the sales department at muaythailives.com. “We are looking also to have a dedicated team for tailor-made events over the months to come”, adds Mr. Uekrongtham.
