Khiri Travel introduces four new off-the-beaten-track trips

BANGKOK - Khiri Travel has introduced four new off-the-beaten track travel experiences in the Greater Mekong Region. Guests can visit the Jarai ethnic villages in Central Vietnam, Muslim coastal communities in Krabi, the temples and towns of Mon and Kayin states in Myanmar, or unwind on remote Cambodian islands where translucent sea waters lap white powder beaches.

The four trips have been designed to satisfy a wide range of interests. Each one is accessible to mainstream travellers. Khiri Travel emphasizes that each trip can be tailored to individual needs. The journeys are multi-day packages created with local partners who have specialist community insights on what to do, where to go and what to try in each rural location.

"Go local and escape the crowds," says Willem Niemeijer, CEO of Khiri Travel. "Thresh rice, pick coffee, paint batik, visit remote temples and sleep in a stilt house. Then head to the beach. Each journey is a rewarding holiday experience with plenty of insights along the way."

The four-day/three-night Koh Klang Eco Experience gives an alternative perspective on Krabi. The emphasis is on how Muslim fishing folk make the most of local mangrove forests, rice paddies and boat construction to make a living. And being Krabi, the seafood and curries are...memorable.

In Central Vietnam, guests visit Kontum and Pleiku to stay with hilltribes in traditional bamboo houses in an area famous for being on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. An eight-kilometer trek, waterfall discoveries, a trip to a wooden cathedral, traditional Gong and dance music, and explanations of Jarai hilltribe culture are the highlights.

The recent opening of the little used Mae Sot/Myawaddy border between Thailand and Myanmar has allowed Khiri to create a four-day/three night trip to Kayin and Mon States in Myanmar. The trip lets guests enjoy intricate Buddhist temples, remote shrine caves, some easy kayaking (in rivers and rice fields) and the magnificent Golden Rock.

The Koh Rong Samloem islands off the southern coast of Cambodia are reminiscent of southern Thailand 30 or so years ago. Expect hammocks, bamboo huts, fresh seafood and deserted beaches. If this appeals, try Khiri's three-day/two-night Island Paradise trip -- a perfect way to relax after discovering off the beaten track places across the Greater Mekong Region with Khiri Travel.
