SINGAPORE – Based on ten popular Asia Pacific destinations, trivago.sg’s trivago Hotel Price Index reports that the most significant hotel price hikes over New Year’s Eve (NYE) can be found in Taipei.

Following Taipei is Sydney, renowned for her New Year fireworks display – a night on NYE in the Australian city will cost an average of $676, up 162% from the monthly average of $258. Other destinations showing steep increases this period include Pattaya (up 104% to $280), Hong Kong (up 82% to $507), Kuta (up 80% to $256), Tokyo (up 72% to $386), and Singapore (up 39% to $338).

It is notable that globally popular destination Bangkok, which has recently seen a series of anti-government protests, does not see an increase. Hotel prices here are down by 7%, from a monthly average of $114 to $106 on December 31st.

“Hotel price increases over this New Year’s Eve are not too marked in Singapore and its neighbouring cities – an ideal situation for Singaporeans looking for a short getaway or a staycation to ring in 2014,” said Haryati Afendy, spokesperson for trivago in Southeast Asia.
