Malaysia is using this year’s ITB to launch the international side of its Visit Malaysia campaign and underscore its expanding role as a events destination.
The country assumes the role of Convention and Culture Partner at ITB Berlin, the first time an ASEAN nation has taken on the sponsorship.
It will give Tourism Malaysia an opportunity to promote the visit year campaign directly to key stakeholders in global tourism.
Commenting on her country’s participation in ITB Berlin, director of Tourism Malaysia Germany, Maizan Ahmad, said: “2014 is an important year for us. The partnership with ITB Berlin convention, signals the launch of a global campaign ‘Visit Malaysia Year 2014’ (VMY 2014)… that promote itself internationally and even more widely as an attractive travel destination.”
“Visit Malaysia Year will present numerous signature events and activities such as the Malaysia International Shoe Festival 2014, featuring creations by the famous designer Jimmy Choo, and the Malaysia International Tourism Night Floral Parade 2014,” said Maizan Ahmad.
Visitors will be able to update their information on specific highlighted events listed in the country’s VMY calendar during ITB Berlin. The events will kick off with colourful cultural displays at the opening of the ITB Berlin Convention, 5 March 2014 in Hall 7.1b.
Visitors to the Trends & Events Hall can find out about attractive eco-tours and adventure trips in Malaysia. On the main stage in Hall 4.1 dance performances will provide an insight into the multi-cultural society of this Southeast Asian country that attracts more than 26 million visitors a year.
During the ITB Business Travel Days Malaysia will also feature prominently in its role as a major MICE destination focusing on Kuala Lumpur’s conventions centres and the new mass transit systems that make travel in the capital more convenient. The country’s stable political environment and security will be emphasised as a key factor for events and meeting planners.
